Strengthening the Mind: Day 13 of My 21-Day Journey
Written on
Chapter 1: Introduction to My Journey
Welcome back! If you are new to this series, I’ve been documenting my experience with the Wahoo Systm Sports/Fitness Mental Training program, which is intended to span ten weeks. However, I’ve condensed it into a 21-day journey as I’ve struggled to follow their original timeline at least six times now.
On Day 13, I am encouraged to evaluate how I see myself as an athlete. This exercise is crucial as I reflect on my starting point:
Building a stronger mind: Day 2 of 21.
Embracing authenticity and letting go of effort.
Section 1.1: Understanding Self-Image
Wahoo encourages me to explore the connection between my self-perception and my athletic performance. The goal is to assess where I believed I was, where I currently stand, and the direction I need to take. According to Wahoo, our self-image resides in our subconscious, and we often lack a clear vision of the person we aspire to be. They suggest that we can become trapped in our existing self-image.
Reflecting on my current situation, I realize that not much has changed; I've attempted this program multiple times without success until now. I’m taking photos with friends, completing workouts, and training consistently. Therefore, I can say I’m achieving my goals.
Section 1.2: Crafting a New Narrative
Wahoo has prompted me to construct a new narrative, so here it goes:
Although my performance metrics haven't improved since my last update two weeks ago, I’ve come to appreciate the external validation that comes with sharing my workouts. More importantly, I’ve discovered a deeper sense of reward rooted in curiosity. As social beings, we naturally seek validation, and balancing this with a sense of curiosity can lead to positive outcomes.
Moreover, I believe that our self-image is fluid and should not be fixed. Instead of maintaining a static sense of self, we should embrace the idea of continually questioning who we are in relation to our surroundings. The act of wondering may prove more valuable than simply providing answers.
Chapter 2: Embracing the Present
In this video titled "Day 13 - Endurance & Ease - 30 Days Of Yoga," we explore how practicing yoga can help strengthen both the mind and body. It emphasizes finding balance and ease, which aligns perfectly with my current journey.
In another insightful video, "DAY 13: GIVE - 10 min Morning Yoga Stretch," we engage in a short morning routine aimed at increasing flexibility. This resonates with my reflections on growth and the importance of being present in the moment.
Ultimately, I find myself at a place of wanting to grow while being rooted in the now. This state of mindfulness is truly the ideal position to occupy. Society often pushes us to become better versions of ourselves rather than accepting who we are at our core. Discovering our true selves is a journey worth undertaking, and I might respectfully challenge some of Wahoo’s perspectives.
