The Power of Consistency: Unlocking Your Creative Potential

Written on

Chapter 1: The Impact of Consistency

Have you ever wondered why I emphasize the importance of consistency and dedicate myself to regularly sharing my thoughts online?

In 2014, I had a remarkable opportunity to build what I have today. I began writing daily on Quora during my last year of university. At one point, I was gaining 100 new followers daily, and my responses consistently received over 100 upvotes. By the age of 22, I was recognized as a Top Writer, one of the few from India.

However, this came at a time when I was fresh out of college and job hunting. I lacked the confidence to believe that my Quora writing could evolve into a career. If I had committed fully, I might have succeeded.

Instead, my focus wavered, and I allowed my momentum on Quora to fade. I dwindled from producing over 35 answers a month to just one per week, severely affecting my reach.

For someone used to thousands of views, witnessing only 40 views on a post within 24 hours was disheartening. As my engagement waned, my enthusiasm for Quora diminished, and I drifted back into the routine of low-paying jobs and exhausting research roles, causing my online writing prospects to diminish.

I was on the verge of repeating the same mistake as 90% of my writer peers from 2014—letting go of my momentum and returning to a conventional job or family obligations. Yet, I persevered, continuing to write a couple of answers each week, which kept my passion for writing alive.

Eventually, I discovered other platforms like LinkedIn, Medium, Twitter, and YouTube, allowing me to cultivate a diverse audience. Although my initial traction on Quora has faded, my online presence has grown significantly. Despite multiple attempts to regain that momentum on Quora since 2016, my efforts have not yielded the same results.

This is why, regardless of how my statistics fluctuate or how busy life becomes, I remain committed to sharing my work online. I may take short breaks from certain platforms, but I will never truly disappear.

To every writer I encounter, I share this advice: never give up. Maintain consistency for just two years, and your life can change dramatically—so much so that you might not recognize who you’ve become. This article discusses how consistency can serve as your superpower as a creator and how to fully utilize this often-overlooked tool in your toolkit.

The first video titled "Discover Your Unique Superpowers For Success" delves into identifying your unique strengths and how they can lead to success.

Section 1.1: Accelerating Your Writing Speed

In the past, I would spend 5–6 hours crafting a single article, from planning and outlining to researching and publishing. However, I've noticed a significant improvement in my efficiency over time. Now, I can finish an article in just 45 minutes to an hour.

Several factors have contributed to this enhancement:

  • I now rely more on personal experiences and interviews rather than exhaustive research for my articles.
  • The power of compounding is undeniable; daily writing inevitably sharpens your skills.
  • Tasks such as adding links or forming sentences, which used to take considerable time, have become second nature, allowing me to write more fluidly.

Although these improvements may seem minor, their cumulative effect over a few years can be transformative.

Subsection 1.1.1: Every Article as a Learning Opportunity

Every article, regardless of its view count—be it 500,000 or just five—provides valuable insights. Each piece tells a story about your audience's preferences and aversions.

Utilizing these narratives helps you define your ideal audience, enabling you to tailor future posts to address their pressing questions and issues. This approach cultivates community and establishes your personal brand.

As Claire Lowe wisely stated, “Every article you publish is a data point. Your readers communicate through their engagement. Listen and leverage this information.”

Section 1.2: Navigating Inconsistency

While I've maintained a consistent workout routine, life changes, illnesses, or stress can disrupt my habits.

The toughest part of staying consistent is returning to the routine after a break. Here are some tips to ease that transition:

  • Begin with small, immediate goals rather than overwhelming long-term ones. For example, think, “Let’s work out today,” instead of committing to daily workouts.
  • Visualize your day, picturing yourself exercising before even getting out of bed.
  • Avoid setting rigid expectations for your body. Allow yourself to engage in any movements that feel comfortable and natural.
  • Lastly, find joy in the act of working out. Savor the stretches and appreciate the benefits for your body, focusing on enjoyment rather than difficulty.

In essence, it boils down to three key principles: start small, avoid self-imposed pressure, and enjoy the process rather than fixating on results. Whether you are working on writing, marketing, or fitness, these strategies can enhance your consistency.
