Chapter 1: My Career Journey
Despite my deep-seated yearning for independence and a passion for fine arts, I unexpectedly found myself tethered to the same company for sixteen years. Over this time, I reinvented my skill set numerous times to remain relevant, though my typically sharp focus began to wane.
While I relish learning new concepts, I prefer to do so at my own pace rather than in a high-pressure environment. Nevertheless, working in a digital agency required quick adaptations to meet demands, akin to racing through a warp tunnel of swiftly changing technology to maintain my position.

When I embarked on my freelance journey as a Senior Art Director in 2006, the landscape was relatively stable, and I was comfortable with my tools and specifications. However, everything shifted dramatically when I was tasked with creating Flash banners for online advertising.
"Flash," initially developed as graphics and animation software, became a staple in digital advertising after its acquisition by Macromedia and later Adobe. The Adobe Flash Player turned into a ubiquitous software, enabling users to display animations online.

That summer was a turning point. The aspiration to nurture my artistic side was overshadowed by the daunting task of mastering Javascript, CSS, and other technical skills that felt so foreign to me.

Though I eventually navigated through these trials, it was not without significant stress. To maintain my creative spirit, I set my own benchmarks for success based on the initial designs I was given. My aim was to infuse life into code and static visuals, adhering to strict specifications.
The effort I put into perfecting animations often went unnoticed, and I found myself avoiding the question of my profession at social gatherings, as the responses were frequently dismissive.
Yet, I took pride in my ability to transform static images into lively animations, seeing each project as a new creative challenge. I humorously viewed myself as a demi-God of pixel ads, imagining a future where my work would be recognized as art.
Section 2.1: The Shift to Adobe After Effects
As time progressed, automated processes began to dominate banner production, diminishing the need for my role. Consequently, Adobe After Effects became the sought-after application, overwhelming me with its myriad of features.
Transitioning from Flash to After Effects was not as seamless as I had anticipated. Despite my background, After Effects felt foreign and intimidating. Realizing I needed to enhance my skills, I enrolled in both entry-level and advanced courses, discovering that the surface had barely been scratched.

Overcoming Challenges
As I took on smaller projects, I steadily gained confidence and a better understanding of how everything fit together. However, I often found myself juggling between multiple software tools, only occasionally getting the chance to revisit After Effects.
Without a mentor to guide me, learning the shortcuts and capabilities of various plugins was a daunting task. Watching the rendering progress bar crawl felt agonizing, particularly knowing my aging MacBook Pro was not up to the challenge.
Despite these hurdles, I persevered, emerging with a solid understanding of the industry and an eagerness to upgrade my equipment for better performance.
