Maximizing Medium Engagement: 30 Days of Consistency and Growth
Written on
Chapter 1: The Power of Consistency
Consistency is indeed the cornerstone of success.
I’ve reiterated this point multiple times: my passion lies in experimenting with my content creation approach. This experimentation is essential for keeping the writing process enjoyable, particularly during those uninspired days. The more you test and refine your methods, the greater your progress. Achieving just 1% improvement with each post can lead to substantial growth in your personal brand or business.
My Goals for March
After a sluggish February on Medium, I decided to boost my efforts significantly. I began engaging more actively than ever before, which led to a noticeable improvement in my metrics. One of my posts even went viral for a brief period! To keep up the momentum, I set clear objectives for March:
- Write at least one article every day.
- Engage with a minimum of 20 other articles daily.
This wasn’t an overwhelming commitment; it simply called for dedication and focus.
How Did I Fare?
I’m thrilled to report that I achieved my goals! Throughout March, I wrote a total of 33 articles (this one included), surpassing my initial target. Although I missed a couple of days, I met my overarching aim of 30 articles. Additionally, I consistently read and engaged with an average of 20 articles daily. In total, I interacted with around 600 articles throughout the month.
When I say "engaged," I mean I read each article in full, provided thoughtful comments (beyond just "Great job!" or a simple summary), and offered a few claps. While some articles were quick reads, others required more time, yet I thoroughly enjoyed engaging with such quality content.
What Were the Results?
Surprisingly, my consistent efforts in creation and engagement made March my most stable and profitable month on Medium to date. Unlike the erratic fluctuations of previous months, my statistics for March showed a much smoother trajectory, aside from a few spikes on days when certain articles performed exceptionally well.
In fact, my earnings are projected to exceed $350 for the first time. While this may not seem monumental, it’s a promising indicator of growth. Since November, I’ve belonged to the $100 club (the top 6–8% of Medium writers), but I had never surpassed $250 in my ten months on the platform until now.
The Key Takeaway
The most straightforward lesson I learned this month is that consistency yields results over time. You don’t need to write every single day or rigidly engage with 20 articles daily as I did. However, the algorithm appears to favor regular interaction on the platform and time spent appreciating the work of fellow writers, making it beneficial to establish a rhythm.
Additionally, if you focus on reading content that genuinely interests you (rather than feeling obligated to return the favor), you’ll find the process much more enjoyable. I uncover something new on Medium every day.
If you're aiming for stability in your stats dashboard, consider the following steps:
- Develop a sustainable writing routine.
- Dedicate time for regular engagement.
I intend to continue my writing and engagement efforts in April, hoping to replicate these results. I anticipate a gradual upward trend in my metrics as long as I remain consistently valuable.
As always, I’ll keep you updated!
