Title: Discovering What Cats Know: Insights from Feline Friends
Written on
Chapter 1: Feline Wisdom
As a devoted cat enthusiast and owner, I've come to appreciate several intriguing facts about my furry companions. My observations, photographs, and research resemble the work of Diane Fossey, albeit from the comfort of my couch in the suburbs rather than a jungle.
After years of informal research, supervised by my cats, I've identified six key truths that all felines seem to understand.
1. The Ideal Breakfast Time
Cats seem to believe that breakfast is best served between 5:30 AM and 7:00 AM. The early morning hours might be their favorite time, as they know humans are often groggy and more likely to give in to their demands. One morning, when I dared to deviate from this schedule, my cat Harper gently pawed at my face to remind me. Her sweet nature kept her claws at bay, and soon enough, I was up and feeding her.
2. Peak Zoomie Times
Late-night and early-morning Zoomies are a delight for cats. Perhaps the darkness aids their sneaky antics, or they simply want to burn off their breakfast energy. Either way, dodging my racing kitties while trying to work is an adventure in itself. Hermione often leads the charge, with Harper hot on her tail, while Scout, my blind cat, listens intently to join the fun.
3. Feline Contributions to Zoom Meetings
If you've worked from home, you might have experienced the unexpected appearance of a cat during a Zoom call. Hermione has a knack for knowing when I'm on a call, and she makes her grand entrance, believing that my success translates into more treats for her. Her fluffy tail has become a hit among my colleagues, and Scout has also made a few memorable cameos.
4. Neighborhood Surveillance
Harper takes her role as the neighborhood sentinel very seriously. She spends her afternoons observing the neighbors, always on alert for any sign of trouble—especially from the pesky squirrels. However, when a storm rolls in, her vigilance wanes, and she scurries off to her hiding spot under the sink, displaying a keen sense of self-preservation.
5. The Art of Ignoring New Toys
When a new toy arrives, the best strategy for my cats is to ignore it for at least a week. They seem to prefer the box it came in or a long-forgotten toy instead. Just when I begin to regret the purchase, one of my cats will suddenly take an interest, prompting the others to join in the fun.
6. The Shower Gathering
Regardless of the time, the sound of the shower brings my cats running. Hermione usually arrives first, taking her place on the toilet, while Scout settles on the bath mat, and Harper rushes in just as I step into the shower. Their positions remain unchanged when I emerge moments later.
Closing Thoughts
As I continue my observations and research, I anticipate expanding this list further. With two cats nestled on my lap as I write, I am certainly in a target-rich environment.
