Walking Through London: A Photo Journey of the Iconic City

Chapter 1: The Brewing Legacy of London
Many assume that the craft beer movement is a modern trend driven by hipsters adorned with tattoos. However, the origins of breweries and pale ales in the British capital trace back centuries. During a recent cycling excursion, I stumbled upon several sites in east London that reflect the historical significance of this industry in the UK.
For over three centuries, the brewery Truman, Hanbury, Buxton & Co. thrived on Brick Lane. Established in 1669, it saw considerable expansion during the 18th century, including the opening of The Black Eagle brewery, which still stands today. Although the brewery ceased operations in 1988, the site has since transformed into offices, galleries, shops, and restaurants.
Evidence of Truman, Hanbury, Buxton & Co.'s far-reaching impact remains visible in numerous pubs that proudly display the brewery's name. At one point, the firm produced around 305,000 hectoliters of porter annually, earning it a mention in Dickens’ classic, David Copperfield.

As a non-drinker, I raise my glass filled with a refreshing Clwb Tropica to honor this British institution, which, although no longer operational, has left an indelible mark on the culture. You, dear readers, have the freedom to select your preferred beverage. Cheers!
