Chapter 1: Understanding Our Three Brains
The concept of utilizing the brains located in our head, heart, and gut offers an exciting opportunity to tap into our inherent wisdom. Recent advancements in science, particularly in fields like epigenetics, quantum physics, and neuroscience, have shed light on how we can integrate this knowledge into our everyday existence.
In this era of discovery, science is challenging conventional thought by embracing chaos, complexity, and systemic thinking. Although those with keen intuition and common sense may have recognized these truths long ago, it's gratifying to see them being validated through rational inquiry.
Many of my friends often question, “How does this pertain to me?” They recognize my expertise in regeneration and often seek my insights about nature. I remind them that our bodies are a reflection of nature itself.
I share my personal transformation: “Everything changed for me! Once I understood these concepts, I stopped feeling overwhelmed by chaos. I ceased to seek validation from others and learned how to be my own guide, leading a fulfilling life. I now occupy my rightful space in the world while also making room for others and different species. It's a rewarding, loving, and adventurous existence.”
Let’s delve into the remarkable benefits of our three brains. We possess one in our head, another in our heart, and a third in our gut. By harnessing the full potential of all three, we can unlock extraordinary abilities.
Head-Brain
Our head-brain is comprised of two hemispheres.
“According to McGilchrist’s thesis, our brain has two complementary halves that perceive the world in distinct manners. The right hemisphere focuses on connections and the broader picture, while the left hemisphere zeroes in on details, technical aspects, and linearity.”
— British Journal of General Practice
Upon reflection, many of us may realize that we predominantly rely on the left hemisphere in our daily lives. We tend to think in structured, linear ways and prioritize quantitative data in our education. However, the true potential lies within the right hemisphere, which excels in systemic thinking and navigating complexity.
Lifehack: To unlock the capabilities of our right hemisphere, embrace creativity. Live a vibrant, adventurous life. Be bold, experiment, and notice how both hemispheres begin to work in harmony.
Heart-Brain
The heart-brain is fascinating, containing around 40,000 neurons. Our hearts possess the ability to think and convey information to our neural systems. Anyone who has experienced heartbreak understands that our hearts can cause profound physical pain.
Conversely, harnessing heart-centered thinking can bolster our health and neural function. This has now been scientifically validated. When we become conscious of this, we can experience the significance of heart-centered thinking and channel our emotions toward leading a meaningful life.
Lifehack: Accessing the heart-brain involves navigating our emotions. While they can sometimes mislead us, they can also be beneficial if we learn to channel and express them effectively. Techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, and mindfulness can help us cultivate this mind-body connection.
Gut-Brain
Our gut-brain plays a critical role in our overall health. Within our gut exists a symbiosis with beneficial microorganisms that contribute to a robust immune system. It is essential to nourish this brain and recognize its importance.
Lifehack: We can take two key actions to support our microbiome. First, minimize exposure to factors that can harm it, such as antibiotics, pollution, and environmental toxins. While we shouldn’t live in fear of these elements, it’s crucial to limit them as much as possible. Secondly, we can enhance our microbiome through a balanced diet rich in vegetables, fermented foods, and diverse spices, while avoiding processed foods and excessive sugar. Variety is an effective approach to nutrition.
In general, both the gut and our body thrive on fresh air and movement. This is why I enjoy long walks in nature and prioritize sleep without an alarm. Allowing our biological rhythms to guide us is essential.
Engaging with healthy, living soil is another way to strengthen our immune systems. The contact between our skin and the microorganisms in the soil can amplify our gut's wisdom.
Happy natural gardening! Enjoy your walks in nature! Embrace creativity, emotions, and the power of microorganisms. Let’s reconnect with our true selves and live vibrantly!
