Chapter 1: The Dilemma of Passion and Profession

As I delve into hours of study on a topic that evokes both admiration and frustration,

I find myself wrestling with terms and meanings,

Struggling to untangle the confusion surrounding

ethical hacking, cybersecurity, and breach detection.

At times, I question whether I am on the right path—

choosing technology over the arts or humanities,

where my true passions reside.

Yet, the allure of financial security beckons me,

promising a livelihood, even at the expense of my spirit.

Anxiety grips me, insecurity propels me forward,

and I proceed diligently, like a steadfast soldier,

chasing after what ensures my survival.

Someone once remarked that every individual embodies duality.

For me, this isn’t simply good versus bad,

but rather a conflict between heart and intellect, soul and sustenance.

Do I want to be a struggling artist or a prosperous consultant?

For three years, I roamed the globe by sail,

hoping I’d discovered my true vocation.

Yet, reason prevailed, and I returned

like a pig returning to the trough, feasting on ideas and insights,

preparing my vessel for another expedition

into the boundless seas of opportunity,

where my future hinges on my current achievements.

My spirit yearns for affirmation, hoping my choices are sound,

allowing me to follow my dreams while ensuring financial stability.

A boat cannot fund itself;

resources must be sourced from somewhere.

In an ideal world, financial concerns would vanish,

allowing us the freedom to pursue our passions

without the burden of survival weighing us down.

Yet, this isn’t the reality I inhabit, despite my aspirations.

Thus, I press on, studying diligently, memorizing jargon and algorithms,

with passing grades as my only priority now,

to secure my degree and acquire new competencies,

keeping my focus on the ultimate reward:

sailing into the sunset, pockets filled

with the treasure necessary to thrive.
