I find myself grappling with something that’s been on my mind for quite a while. I hope you can shed some light on this matter.
Here's my situation: I submitted an application for a role at your organization. It could have been through your website, LinkedIn, or another platform. I meticulously reviewed your job description to ensure my qualifications aligned before I took the time to apply.
After that, I crafted a personalized cover letter specifically for your company. As a writer, I find this task manageable, yet I understand that many of you utilize AI tools to filter through the numerous cover letters you receive. With that in mind, I ensured to incorporate the vibrant keywords from your job listing. I dedicated significant time refining it, knowing that I might only capture your attention for a mere four seconds—if I was fortunate enough.
Next, I meticulously examined my resume, repeatedly asking myself what I could do to stand out from the competition. I aimed to create the best version possible, hoping to earn a phone interview.
Instead, I was met with silence or a standard rejection email months later. So long after that I barely remembered your company, lost in the sea of organizations that have overlooked my applications over the years.
I deleted your message, continued my journey, and focused on enhancing my skills. In a landscape filled with rejections, I sought out the opportunities that did come my way.
Then I noticed something troubling.
I saw your job posting again. You had reposted it on platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, and more. It felt as if the previous applications had never been submitted.
Did none of the applicants make the cut? Or were they simply overlooked entirely?
What qualities are you seeking in a candidate? Why not consider those who applied earlier before reposting the vacancy?
This situation brings me sadness, frustration, and resentment. It just doesn’t add up, and I’m left wondering if I’ll ever comprehend it.
I can’t help but think that if you had granted me an interview, you might have discovered what your company truly needs.
Perhaps you would have found a dedicated team member ready to grow alongside you for many years to come.
Perhaps not. Given that I wasn’t even considered worthy of a single interview, that seems unlikely.
