Finding Freedom in Love: A Journey Beyond Pain and Growth

Chapter 1: Embracing Change
Sometimes, insights emerge before I even realize it. This sentiment arose during a conversation with my boyfriend, who is now my husband, perhaps a year ago—or maybe longer? Time blurs as we become engrossed in one another.
"I appreciate being with someone who recognizes that plans can shift," I expressed. "Have I ever shared the reason my previous partner gave for his abuse?"
"Was it because you made him love you?" he asked.
"Exactly. He felt that wasn't part of his plan." His plan, not mine. I approached the relationship with an open heart, not expecting to fall deeply in love, but I did, and I embraced it wholeheartedly.
"And he was intoxicated when it happened," my beloved recalled. He mentioned this to show that he was attentive to my words. He continues to do this, ensuring I know my feelings are acknowledged.
"But he was sober when he justified his actions," I reminded him.
"That only makes it worse," he replied, echoing my thoughts. He was correct.
"I didn't deserve to be punished for being easy to love."
Those words slipped out without much thought, yet they resonated profoundly within me, leading to unexpected realizations.
"No, you absolutely didn't," he affirmed. The warmth in his voice, his embrace, and the way he gazed at me solidified the healing process that had begun.
No, I did not deserve punishment for being easy to love, for being caring, or for wishing to see my loved ones flourish. Yet, I have endured such pain repeatedly. Have you? It's time for that cycle to end.
