Exploring the Interconnected Nature of Health and Well-Being

Chapter 1: Understanding Health Connections
In recent times, I've taken a more casual approach to discussing health, moving away from traditional academic writing. After a decade immersed in health studies and practice, I've come to realize that virtually everything relates back to health in some way.
As human beings, we share three universal experiences: birth, death, and the inevitable encounters with our health. However, health discussions are often sidelined. Much of the fascinating scientific and medical knowledge resides in academic journals, shrouded in terminology that many people find difficult to grasp.
The disconnect between public curiosity and the often inaccessible language used by scientists and health professionals is frustrating. Many individuals shy away from health discussions due to feelings of shame or fear, often waiting until they face health issues to engage. Compounding this problem is the barrage of alarming, misrepresented, or outright inaccurate health information flooding the public domain, creating confusion and distrust.
To address this, I founded "Interconnections in Health," a platform dedicated to creating educational content geared toward the general public—those without formal health qualifications—written by experts in an engaging and educational manner. As a qualitative researcher focused on underserved communities, I also value the experiences of patients. Therefore, this publication will feature personal narratives about health experiences. Ultimately, our aim is to spark curiosity, enhance health literacy, and provoke thoughtful reflection on various health topics.
Chapter 2: Meet the Editor
Who is behind these narratives?
About Sara, the Editor of Interconnections in Health
Hailing from Medellín, Colombia, I am a scientist and writer focused on population health, behavioral health, and the prevention of non-communicable diseases. I consider myself a professional enthusiast with a diverse academic background spanning philosophy and physics, holding degrees in Cognitive Science, Psychology, and Global Health.
As a researcher, I specialize in mixed-methods studies, using this knowledge to drive evidence-based innovations in health. As a writer, I aim to disrupt traditional health communication through unexpected collaborations, literature, and artistic expression.
"Interconnections in Health" is a deeply personal initiative for me. I firmly believe that the written word and art can bridge the gaps in health communication. My goal is to foster open, inclusive conversations about health, encouraging the sharing of personal stories and making health education accessible and enjoyable.
I am a strong advocate for diversity in these discussions, and I invite more voices to join this important conversation! If you are interested in contributing, please refer to our submission guidelines, which include details for potential authors.
