FRESHLY BAKED: THE MERGE IS LOOMING

For those holding onto a bit of Ethereum, you've likely been eagerly awaiting “the merge” for quite some time.

What exactly is “the merge”?

This upcoming change will transition Ethereum from a proof-of-work to a proof-of-stake mechanism.

In simpler terms, this transition will enhance ETH's speed, reduce energy consumption, and improve scalability. However, implementing such a significant change is akin to replacing an aircraft engine while in flight, which has led to numerous delays over the years.

This year, Ethereum successfully completed two test runs, Ropsten on June 8 and Sepolia on July 6. The final test, called Goerli, is expected to commence as early as this weekend. (Seriously, who names these tests? A marketing team needs to reconsider!)

If everything proceeds smoothly, the actual merge is slated for September 19. Since the announcement, ETH has seen a significant price increase, with potential for further gains. (Just a reminder: THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE!!!)

To clarify, miners currently invest heavily in equipment to verify transactions on the network and receive ETH as compensation. They often sell off their ETH immediately to cover mining costs. The merge will eliminate the need for mining, potentially reducing selling pressure and leading to an increase in ETH's value.

According to Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, the market hasn't fully priced in the impact of the merge: "I believe the merge will not be fully recognized in terms of market valuation, psychological factors, or the overall narrative."

There you have it—take this information and do what you will with it.

POLL RESULTS: IS THE MARKET RECOVERING?

We love to speculate here at Bite Sized Beta, so we reached out to you for your predictions on whether the worst of the stock market downturn is behind us.

Unfortunately, it appears the optimists are currently unavailable:

Looks like we'll need to keep engaging in alt-coin quizzes on Coinbase for a while longer.

COOKIE CRUMBS

  • Nancy Pelosi recently sold Nvidia stock at a $341K loss just before Congress approved a significant investment bill for the semiconductor sector. Many skeptics are questioning the timing of her husband's stock picks, raising eyebrows about the situation.
  • In a shocking revelation, one of the most notable scientific frauds was uncovered. A researcher who authored one of the most-cited Alzheimer’s studies falsified images to link the disease to beta-amyloid proteins. This has misled scientists seeking cures for decades, with the NIH having allocated $1.6B this year alone to related projects.
  • Elon Musk is countersuing Twitter over his failed acquisition bid. In response, Twitter has subpoenaed several of his associates, including Chamath Palihapitiya and Mark Andreessen. This situation could make for a gripping Netflix documentary.
  • Instagram has rolled back its push for Reels and unfamiliar content following backlash from celebrities. Adam Mosseri, Instagram's head, remarked that users should be pleasantly surprised by new content in their feeds, a sentiment that clearly hasn't been met.
  • A fascinating study reveals that after interviewing 225 millionaires over five years, four main archetypes emerged as common among those who achieve wealth.
