Chapter 1: The Importance of Sharing Pronouns

In today's society, sharing your pronouns on platforms like LinkedIn is a simple yet powerful act of support. If you’re already doing it, thank you! If not, I encourage you to consider starting this practice.

You might think that sharing your pronouns isn't necessary. Perhaps you feel that your identity aligns with traditional gender roles. However, many of us in the LGBTIQA+ community have faced challenges that you may not have experienced.

For instance, you might not have heard whispers questioning your gender identity or felt the uncomfortable stares when using public restrooms. You may have never been subjected to derogatory labels from strangers or even friends. When filling out forms that only offer "male" or "female" as options, those of us who don't fit neatly into these categories often feel invisible.

Additionally, many of us have been told by our families to hide our true selves, referring to our partners as "friends" or "roommates" instead. Some of us have even endured public debates that threaten our right to love whom we choose.

These experiences are just the beginning of what individuals in our community have navigated. So, when you choose to share your pronouns—regardless of what they are—it signifies your willingness to understand and stand in solidarity with those of us who break the mold.
