Yesterday marked the 167th anniversary of the birth of Nikola Tesla, a monumental figure among inventors and visionaries.

Tesla's scientific contributions were both pioneering and extensive. He is particularly recognized for his role in developing the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system, a groundbreaking innovation that he patented and licensed to Westinghouse Electric in 1888. This invention served as the cornerstone for today's electrical infrastructure, facilitating the effective transmission of electricity over long distances. In addition to AC power, Tesla's inventive genius led to the creation of numerous significant devices, including the three-phase power transmission system, the induction motor, and the Tesla coil, many of which are still utilized in modern technology. He was also a trailblazer in wireless communication, radio technology, X-ray imaging, and remote control systems. In a July 1934 article published in Modern Mechanics and Inventions, Tesla expressed the essence of being a scientific thinker: “The scientific man does not aim at an immediate result. He does not expect that his advanced ideas will be readily taken up. His work is like that of the planter — for the future. His duty is to lay the foundation for those who are to come, and point the way. He lives and labors and hopes.”
