Expanding Literary Horizons: Break Free from Repetitive Reading

Introduction to Diverse Reading
Every day can feel monotonous, much like the previous one. During my daily train rides to work, I used to dedicate an hour to reading books. Yet, I realized that attempting to read while walking and looking at a screen posed its own dangers.
After being inspired by a recent book, I transitioned to audiobooks. Now, I simply open my podcast app and randomly select a channel, effectively breaking away from my usual reading routine.
Trapped in a Reading Cycle
Many of us tend to stick to books that resonate with our established interests, which can stifle our curiosity and limit our exploration of new subjects.
Our preferences often shape and restrict our choices without us even noticing. It’s essential to avoid confining ourselves to a narrow niche when it comes to our reading habits.
My Reading Focus
If you’ve checked my profile, you might have seen my passion for self-improvement, self-development, and self-awareness. Historically, I've gravitated towards books that delve into thinking, exploration, and personal growth.
However, this concentrated focus can sometimes make it challenging to discover new ideas, as many of these themes overlap and cover familiar territory. Therefore, venturing beyond a specific niche is vital for growth.
Embracing Synergy
Listening to audiobooks allows me to explore a broader spectrum of subjects beyond my typical interests. Randomly selecting podcasts exposes me to diverse narratives that expand my perspective.
For example, during a recent commute, I tuned into a book that explored the concept of "What is Happiness?" Though it didn’t directly tie into self-improvement, it touched on themes of mental resilience and motivation, which surprisingly linked back to my core interests.
From the Unknown to the Known
Audiobooks provide an opportunity to absorb knowledge across various topics and viewpoints, rather than just those that directly relate to our primary interests.
If something captures our attention while listening, we can opt to acquire the book for a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
